In many African philosophies, breath is more than oxygen—it is Susu, Sumsum, or Life Force. To "Breathe In" is to take in the history, the air of the ancestors, and the energy of the land. This collection explores the moment the artist inhales the world around them and exhales it onto the canvas.
To breathe in is to accept. To breathe in is to remember. In this collection, Victor explore inhalation as a journey. Whether it is the salt air of the Gulf of Guinea or the dusty breeze of the northern plains, these works capture the life-force that sustains us.
PERSONAL REFLECTIONS
When I sat down to create for the "Breathe In" collection, I wanted to move away from the "noise" of the final product and return to the internal rhythm of the creator. In the city, we are always exhaling—shouting, working, moving, producing. We give so much of ourselves to the streets and the canvas that we often forget to replenish the source.
